The Piaggio Fast Forward (P. F. F) is a division of Italian vehicle manufacturer Piaggio, is developed a autonomous stuff-moving robot. This is roundish robot called Gita Robot, which is pronounced as “gee-tah”. It will follow you around remotely and can carry 19 kilograms of tools, groceries, or anything you want.
Gita Robot is performing visual SLAM, which is simultaneous localization and mapping system. It is the primary navigation system consisting a pair of stereoscopic cameras mounted on the robot. It compares its SLAM picture with the SLAM that the user is doing. The user SLAM is performed by stereoscopic cameras on the belt wear by him. The robot and the user’s belt communicate over a dedicated Wi-Fi network. This approach allows robot to track you even if you turn a corner and it loses its line of sight.
Gita Robot is capable of moving from pedestrians speed to 35 kilometers per hour. The Gita maintains a good distance while you are walking or running, but will sidle up close once it is determined you have stopped moving around.
Gita robot has obstacle detection and avoidance capabilities which is provided by vision and ultrasonic sensors and if it gets stuck with any obstacle, it is smart enough to send you a signal for help to its user.
Gita Robots Mode of Operation –
It can move independently between way-points. Gita Robot detects and avoids obstacles should any features of the real world not coincide with its existing maps.
With the tap of a button, Gita Robot can follow you, head off alone to a pre-assigned way-point, or form a convoy with other Gitas.
In the follow mode, Gita Robot learns how to navigate complex spaces by trailing an experienced guide equipped with a wearable: YOU! As it travels, it creates a 3D map of its surroundings.
- All Terrain
Gita Robot has large wheels like a bicycle, so it can operate on irregular surfaces, indoors and outdoors, on sidewalks and streets, up and down ADA compliant ramps.
Gita Robot matches the full range of human mobility, with speeds that extend from a crawl to a sprint to a fast ride. Gita can move at up to 22mph.
- Never Lost
Gita Robot always knows the way. Even if you are behind a tree or around the corner, it will always find you and catch back up.
Gita’s lid has a secure lock to protect its cargo. Gita is tracked at all times. It is equipped with a 360 degree camera.
Gita Robot is built to carry up to 40 pounds of cargo and a volume of up to nearly 2,000 cubic inches (the equivalent of a case of wine, a loaded rucksack, or two stuffed grocery bags).
- Long Range
Gita Robot batteries will last for a full 8 hours when operated at walking speeds. It will follow you around all day without getting tired.
